How to Set Up and Organize a Bathroom Cleaning Caddy
Are you interested in putting a system in place to have a clean bathroom? Having a readily available bathroom cleaning caddy is one of the best ways to set yourself up for success.
Now, while it would be great if this automatically did the work for you, unfortunately, it won’t ☹. However, you will save time and effort from going back and forth retrieving cleaning supplies and carrying them to and from the bathroom.
Also, you’ll know when you’re low on something and need to stock up. Let’s face it, running out of what you need can be demotivating when you’ve geared yourself up to clean. You want to grab your caddy and get to work!
So, if you don’t have a bathroom cleaning caddy, there’s no time like the present to put one together. It will make a difference in your cleaning routine.
Let’s look at how to set one up.
What is a cleaning caddy?
Simply speaking, a cleaning caddy is used to contain your supplies. In this instance, it stores your bathroom cleaning items in one place so that you can retrieve them easily when you’re ready to clean.
The good news is that there are countless caddies on the market. Plenty of options to suit your particular needs and décor.
Besides, you can certainly opt to use what you already have. Maybe you have a tote that you’re not using or a wire basket from your local dollar store that could be re-purposed. Both of these items would make decent cleaning caddies.
What to look for in a cleaning caddy
Get one with a handle. After all, you will be carrying it around your bathroom, so it needs to have a good grip and feel comfortable.
Furthermore, your bathroom cleaning caddy needs to be large enough to hold your supplies. And, must fit in your bathroom, for instance, under the sink, on a bathroom shelf, or wherever you decide to store it.
Now, some caddies have separate sections, allowing for supplies to be placed in different compartments. This is a matter of preference and certainly not a necessity.
And as mentioned, there’s so much to choose from in terms of materials, for instance, metal, plastic, wood, etc. It all boils down to your personal preference.
For ease of use, I store two separate caddies under the sink in the bathroom. One for cleaning the toilet and the other for cleaning the rest of the bathroom. This is what I prefer, and as noted, it makes it easier when cleaning.
What should be in a bathroom cleaning caddy?
When you’re putting it together, think about the cleaning products and tools you use whenever you clean your bathroom. These are the items that will go in your caddy.
Here are some tools and cleaning products to consider:
Cleaning tools:
- Cleaning gloves: To protect your hands. Use separate pairs for the toilet and general bathroom cleaning, to avoid cross-contamination. If you have the same color gloves, label them to keep them distinct.
- Microfiber cleaning cloths: These are reusable and easy to wash. They remove more dirt and dust than other types of cloths. If you keep several cloths in your caddy, you can rotate them through your laundry cycle and always have extras.
- Old toothbrushes: For some of the harder-to-reach areas on the toilet and the faucet. Or to remove grout. If you’re using one bathroom cleaning caddy, label at least one toothbrush so that you don’t mix them up.
- Cotton balls or cotton pads: To dislodge any mirror stains.
- Squeegee: Use to remove excess water from the counter and to clean the glass shower door.
- Scrub sponges: For the shower floor and glass shower door. Use a separate one underneath the toilet rim.
- Spray bottles: Pour your cleaning solutions into the spray bottles and label them.
Cleaning solutions:
- All-purpose cleaner
- Glass cleaner
- Baking soda
- Castile soap
- Rubbing alcohol: For mirror stains.
- Disinfectant: Hydrogen peroxide is a good disinfectant that is not as harsh as bleach, particularly if you have sensitivities. Store in a dark bottle.
- White vinegar (diluted with water): For mirror cleaning.
With a well-stocked, accessible bathroom cleaning caddy, you’ll be able to grab it right away whenever you need to roll up your sleeves and clean!
How do you organize a cleaning caddy?
If you opt for a caddy with separate compartments, you can separate your supplies and keep things neat and orderly. So, for instance, cleaning cloths in one section, gloves in another. And cleaning products and tools in yet another compartment.
If you don’t have a caddy with separate sections, you want to make sure that everything you need is visible and not buried underneath other items. You don’t want your cleaning cloths to be covering up another tool, for instance. Rolling up your cleaning cloths is a good way to avoid this.
Also, color-coding your cleaning cloths is a helpful way to stay organized and once again, avoid cross-contamination. Dedicate one color for toilet cleaning, so you always know what cloth to use for that particular chore. Remember to label your spray bottles as well.
At the end of the day, whatever you use most frequently should be the easiest to access.
Recap:
Putting together a well-organized cleaning caddy for your bathroom allows you to have easy access to all the cleaning tools and solutions you regularly use. Remember to get a caddy with a handle so that you can easily move it to where you’re cleaning.
Specific compartments, labeling, and color-coding your gloves keep items from getting mixed up.
With your supplies and cleaning products now all well put together, you’re all set up to be ready to clean that bathroom at any time.
